We would like to take a moment to share with you a 2024 year in review from the ANA National President Dr. Jennifer Mensik-Kennedy:
2024 brought significant changes around the world and in our communities. At the American
Nurses Enterprise, we embraced transformation, launching phase one of a rebrand to elevate The
Power of Nurses -a truth and a call to action for the enterprise and for our members. With a new strategic and empowering vision in place, we invested more than $10.4 million to
promote nurse-led leadership and innovation to improve health and healthcare. We committed
over $730,000 in grants and awards to support DEIAB and anti-racism efforts. As part of the Nurse Staffing Task Force, we worked with key stakeholders to make
recommendations and provide insights on proposed policy, regulatory, and operational actions
that support appropriate staffing. Our advocacy team co-hosted a congressional briefing to
increase awareness of the Improving Care and Access to Nurses (ICAN) Act and its effort to remove
regulatory barriers that Medicare patients face when attempting to see APRNs. Our efforts
extended to the regulatory arena as well, where we commented officially on a broad range of
federal regulatory issues that affect nurses and our patients. We empowered nurses to fully realize the power of their potential and in 2024, more than 77,000
nurses propelled their careers forward by enrolling in professional development and educational
opportunities. Our subject matter experts developed programs that address the top challenges
nurses face today, and we saw an 8% increase in APRN certifications. In 2025, we are committed to providing resources to promote nurses' mental and physical health
through Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation and the American Nurses Foundation's new free
curriculum, Nurse Well-Being: Building Peer and Leadership Support. We're publishing a revised
Code of Ethics for Nurses that has been and will be the gold standard for nurses across the
country. In February, we're launching an Equity in Nursing program with a summit for change inĀ
Washington, DC. We will release an updated position statement on the ethical use of AI in nursing
and partner with experts to develop AI education for nurses. And of course, we will be celebrating
nurses and their role in the community as the world's most trusted profession all year-but
especially in May during National Nurses Week!We look forward to amplifying nurses' voices and elevating The Power of Nurses in 2025.
Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season,
Jennifer Mensik Kennedy, PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN
